The Kingdom of Newness | A Song

I wrote this song after spending some time thinking about how the Holy Spirit brings life into the church, and how we can stifle or welcome it.

I wrote this song after spending some time thinking about how the Holy Spirit brings life into the church, and how we can stifle or welcome it.

God is determined that
The kingdom of newness
Will not be strangled
By the world, or men’s hearts

2. So mourn, Christian people,
That what He once made you
Has been stead’ly reduced
To paper and words

3. Mem’ries of Chapel,
Of love-filled communion,
Of brothers and sisters
In jubilee scramble

4. An uncontrolled love
That was chaos and moving
Has been channelled, controlled
And robbed of its running.

5. Cry out your mourning,
Weep tears of yearning,
Break thru all barriers
To the Saviour’s return.

6. There’s a wonderful wineskin
Of love and devotion
That outsmarts religion
And all the world’s charm

7. Let’s welcome our Jesus,
Love Him supremely;
Then love our brethren,
Then love the poor

8. The kingdom is power
And not words or paper –
It’s time for an outbreak
That turns over barriers

9. That lets love run freely,
Lets tears be open,
Restores all our innocence,
Makes joy dawn again.

10. The Son is now shining
His new love upon us –
Mourn what was lost
And yearn for what’s new

11. There’s a pouring out coming,
Flow all together –
His kingdom community,
Light to the world

12. It’s all about Him,
Not what we have created –
His newness is breaking out
Into our world
